The 2017 victors of the N.C.A.A. March Madness tournament is North Carolina.

North Carolina, whose heartbreaking loss in the NCAA tournament championship game a year ago provided one of the NCAA’s greatest games in history.

Carolina was the number one seed and the team picked to win the tournament by many. The veteran team had many key players return who led to winning the championship.

According to “The New York Times”, UNC finished the sloppy game in decidedly unsloppy fashion, going on an 8-0 run that was keyed by the defense.

Gonzaga was down three points with 22 seconds left, the Bulldogs’ Nigel Williams-Goss drove the lane but was blocked by UNC big man Kennedy Meeks. A quick outlet and a dunk by Justin Jackson and Carolina had its title.

It was a well played game and Carolina made more plays to squeeze out a very close game.

Nate Schoenecker, ’18, said, “It was a very good game, and I wanted Carolina to win after what happened last year.”
